Dress to Impress for Career Success

DRESS FOR THE JOB YOU WANT

Knowing how to dress appropriately for the job you want is crucial for any man, but for big and tall guys, the real challenge is to find the correct sized clothes that will not only compliment your shape and height, but be a good match for your chosen profession.

These days, dressing for work isn’t always as straightforward as throwing on a suit and tie, grabbing your briefcase and heading out the door. While that may still be the case for many, there are now changes to what we wear to our daily jobs. Creative careers have bred more creative styles in which smart casual clothing has become the norm for many workplaces.

If you choose a creative Casual Work Wearprofession, your daily outfit can vary widely. It is hard to go past mens jackets or dress shirts, but even wearing a well chosen ensemble of large size t-shirt and jeans can create a great look. Allow your creative side to come through in your work-wear by adding a few dashes of colour here and there. Don’t be afraid to accessorize with bold colours and patterns that will expose your inner confidence.

For most us though, the professional look is still mandatory for our chosen career. For big and tall guys, this doesn’t mean we have to be boring and choose dull, lifeless ensembles. There are some things big men need to remember when choosing a Professional Work Wearprofessional outfit.

It is always wise to go with dark coloured, large mens suits and mix it with a lighter business shirt. A good suit should be cut to flatter your figure. Avoid tight suits that constrict your movement. Choose a well fitted suit that skims the body without hugging it or flapping over it.

The same goes for a business shirt. It should not be too tight or too loose, but fall over the body just right, without you having to tug at it or constantly re-tuck it into your trousers.

Light, breathable fabrics that keep you cool under pressure are also essential for larger men. Avoid oversize collars that attract unnecessary attention to the neck.

Smart Work WearYour plus size pants should follow a similar principal and not be baggy, they should be cut perfectly to respect your shape. Avoid pleats as they can draw attention to a big stomach. Straight cut trousers can create an elongated look for your legs while pants with a relaxed waist that stretches can provide superior comfort.

All in all, what you choose to wear to work can determine how well you do your job. It’s important to look your best but be comfortable and allow your inner confidence to shine through.

Fashion Tips for Big & Tall Men

Big mens

Knowing how to dress in accordance with your body type is the secret to not only capturing your own distinct style, but also feeling great about yourself. In this day and age, your size and shape should never hold you back as there are retailers out there that cater to big and tall men, allowing you to feel confident and stylish no matter what your size.

With this in mind, it is important to learn a few basic rules. Simply grabbing clothes off the rack will lead to unflattering results. There are easy tips to remember that will make a big difference and have you looking and feeling your best all year round.

TIPS FOR BIG & TALL MEN

KNOW THY SIZE:Size Chart

You wouldn’t buy a pair of shoes without knowing your foot size. The same goes for the rest of your body. Before your search for clothes even begins, it is important to know the measurements for your chest, neck, sleeves, waist and inseam. This will guarantee your shopping experience will be more efficient and raise your chances of finding clothes that compliment your size and shape.

BE WARY OF STRIPES:

Stripes can be your friend or your foe. The rule to remember is that anything not vertical may make you look bigger. That means horizontal, diagonal or any other strange variStriped shirtation will likely do a big man no justice. Best to stick with vertical stripes as they create an elongated effect and can result in a slimming look. Pinstriped shirts with dark jeans or dress pants is always a great look. For tall, skinnier men the opposite is true. A horizontal striped polo shirt can make you look broader in the shoulders and create a flattering physique by giving you some extra bulk.

BALANCE YOUR COLOURS:

Two striking mixes of contrasting colours can divide a big man up and draw attention to unflattering parts of your body. Best to balance your colours and try to keep your shirts and pants similar in tone to create a cleaner, slimming impression. There is no denying that black does make you look thinner, but nobody is stopping you from breaking up the dark tone with a few nifty colour accessories. Once again, tall guys should approach this in reverse. An all black ensemble can make you look even taller and thinner than you may be, so mixing it up with colours can only work in favour of a tall man.

FIND YOUR FIT:

Big and tall men indexcommonly suffer from two misconceptions. Big guys believe tight-fitting clothing will flatten their bulky areas and create a smoother look. In truth, this merely draws attention to those sections you are trying to hide. Others are of the opinion that loose-fitting, baggy clothes will hide excess flab, when in reality they make you look bigger than you are. Tall skinny guys mistakenly choose baggy items that create a flapping effect, or skin-tight items that look awkward.  The solution for both big and tall men is to find your middle ground. Avoid too tight or too baggy. It is important to go with well-fitted clothing that sits comfortably on the body and complements your size and shape without drawing unnecessary attention to the parts you are looking to conceal. Remember to measure up and know your size.

Being a big and tall guy is by no means a disadvantage when it comes to fashion. Thanks to a number ofretailers that caterto large-sized men, you can now be confident no matter what size or shape you are. No two people are the same and being comfortable in your own skin is the key to a happy, fulfilling life.

Christmas deals and new sizing charts released!

This Christmas marks a new beginning for big and tall men around Australia. No longer do they have to politely put up with clothing gifts that are several sizes too small for them. Buying for large size men has become a whole lot easier thanks to Ron Bennett Big Mens Clothing.

In the past, purchasing a new shirt or pair of jeans for the plus size man in your life came with a series of headaches. Big men can be shy about revealing their size so you often had to take a wild guess and buy clothing for them based on what size you think they are. This can lead to a number of problems. You may buy that T shirt or polo that is way too big, risking them becoming embarrassed at just how over-sized you consider them to be. Or you may buy the item of clothing that is several sizes too small. This can lead to further embarrassment when they try on the clothes and find they simply don’t fit.

When shopping online for clothes at Ron Bennett Big Mens, you can utilize our free sizing chart that can give you a better understanding of how big that man in your life may be. There are clear visual guides and even videos describing how to measure a big and tall man so you never need to face the awkwardness of buying presents that are too big or too small ever again.

Style Showdown: AFL Grand Final

We are a fickle lot here at The Significant Man. We have decided to go against the grain and try to pick the winner of this weekends AFL grand final in our own unique way. It has nothing to do with team consistency, ball handling skills or even individual player stats. Our system of picking the winner is based on off-field menswear fashion style.

So let’s take a look at two big name players from each team. For Hawthorn we have chosen captain Luke Hodge, and for the Sydney Swans it just has to be co-captain Adam Goodes.

Luke Hodge has a certain effortless charm that allows him to look sharp in virtually any outfit. As a born leader, Hodge can wear something as simple as a plain tank top and still exude confidence and style.

Of course, having that confidence can so easily lead to some fashion mishaps. We are not sure what to make of this shiny grey suit with black trims. On the one hand we admire Hodge’s boldness. The suit is certainly a head turner and the matching black tie and crisp white shirt gives it a bit of retro charm.

What are your thoughts on this glossy grey suit?

For an evening at the Brownlows, I think we would probably go with this more refined look. Luke Hodge brings out his inner James Bond here with his wife Lauren, wearing a classic black tuxedo with bow tie.

Dual Brownlow medalist Adam Goodes is well known as one the nice guys of AFL football. A superstar on the field, in person he has a relaxed, laid back vibe. We like his casual “just from the gym” look with printed T-Shirt and sweat jacket.

When he steps it up a notch, Goodes shows he has definite style. Check out this three quarter length jacket with open shirt look. This shows some serious fashion chops and suits his size and shape extremely well.

In a more formal setting, Goodes continues to show style. This black suit and tie with crisp white shirt ensemble is hard not to like and Adam wears it well. A well fitted suit can always set you apart from the crowd.
Once again, it’s almost too close to call! Both Adam Goodes and Luke Hodge have their own distinct style and both men seem to enjoy taking some risks with their menswear.

A quick show of hands around The Significant Man office and the AFL grand final style showdown goes to…Adam Goodes!

There really is nothing in it. We suspect there may be some suspicious voting from a couple of diehard Swans fans here in the office. Nevertheless, the vote stands. We are tipping a Sydney Swans win on the weekend!

Who do you guys think has the style edge? Adam Goodes or Luke Hodge?

Style Showdown – NRL Grand Final

With the NRL grand final coming up this weekend we have been scratching our heads trying to pick the winner. Both Canterbury Bulldogs and the Melbourne Storm have had such strong seasons that we simply can’t separate them. We have been left with no other choice than to ignore the on-field attributes of both teams and instead base our decision on their off-field menswear style.

Let’s look at two of the biggest star players from the Bulldogs and the Storm. Hotshot players Ben Barba and Billy Slater.

Both are Dally M award recipients and both are key players for their respective teams, but how do these two powerhouse players match up in off field mens fashion style?

Ben Barba showed up to the recent Dally M awards in a slick looking black tuxedo with glossy tie, trims and lapels. This well fitted suit really made him stand out from the crowd and matched the tone of the evening perfectly.

At last years International Rugby League Player of the Year awards held in London, Billy Slater went with a no tie, open shirt look. This casual ensemble matches his personality well and creates a fresh looking, laid-back and approachable style.

It’s a tough one to pick. Do we go with the slick, formal look of Ben Barba or the more Laid-back casual charm of Billy Slater?

Both men look great but after taking a quick vote in the Significant Man offices, the result goes to Ben Barba by a small margin. His classic black dinner suit is hard to beat, and while Billy Slater nails the casual suit, Barba’s sleekness wins through on the day.

Whether Ben Barba’s off-field menswear style translates to on-field prowess this weekend remains to be seen but we here at The Significant Man are basing our tip on style. So it’s a Bulldogs win in a thriller!

Good luck to both teams!

Dropping Hints for Fathers Day

Disgruntled Dads unite! It’s time to stand up for your fatherly rights and start getting the presents you truly want on Father’s Day.

You all know the familiar routine; you tear open the wrapping on Father’s Day and find that ugly t-shirt that is several sizes too small or that ghastly pair of bright pink socks you wouldn’t be caught dead wearing. Then comes the Oscar worthy performance; The forced smile, the struggle to pretend looking pleased with your gifts. We know they mean well, but if you want to receive the gifts you actually WANT on Father’s Day, you will have to start being more cunning.

As luck would have it, a huge amount of new spring stock has just landed at Ron Bennett Big Men’s Clothing, so this is a great opportunity to start dropping some subtle hints and if all goes well, you may just get the gifts you have always desired for Father’s Day.

Here are some tips on how to successfully drop hints:

Verbal hints

A few harmless complaints over the breakfast table about how your clothes don’t seem to fit anymore is a good start. Mention how you saw some great looking new Polo’s in stock at Ron Bennett Big Men’s.

Envy

Casually tell your kids how envious you are of your mate’s wardrobe. Talk about how he always seems to wear great looking casual wear and you never seem to have enough clothes for yourself!

Timing

Get in early. Be cunning and put the idea into their heads several months beforehand and then never mention it again. If you’ve left it too late this year, make sure you get in early next year. The beauty of this method is that they will think the snazzy jacket or pair of shorts they bought for you was actually their idea.

Guilt

Don’t be ashamed to get competitive. If you really want something special, why not casually tell your kids how your work mate’s children bought him a great looking present for Father’s Day last year. Give them a little push to get them upping the stakes. It’s a cheeky method, but it may just get results!

Product Placement

Get covert and leave a Ron Bennett Big Men’s catalogue open in the kitchen or on the coffee table with the items you like circled in a bright red marker. If this doesn’t get through to them, nothing will!

Dads of the world have no more excuses. Use these hint dropping techniques and you will be finally getting the Father’s Day gifts you want. If you have left it too late this year, start preparing for next year.

Good Luck!
